March 15, 2000
CORVALLIS, Ore. - K.C. Frederic has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Oregon State beginning in the fall of 2000, and Megan McMillan will join the Beavers after transferring from Cal State Bakersfield, OSU head coach Nancy Somera announced Wednesday.
Frederic (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall HS) is a 5-9 outside hitter who led her team to the quarterfinals of the Missouri 4A state tournament last season. She was a first team All-MWAA Division I All-Star and was a third team All-Metro pick as a senior. She also plays club volleyball for the St. Louis Elite Volleyball Club and is a high jumper on her school's track and field team.
"K.C. is a quick, athletic and very smart player who will come in fighting for a starting spot. Her potential is untapped," Somera said.
McMillan (Gasquet, Calif./Del Norte HS) is also a 5-9 outside hitter and played two seasons at CS-Bakersfield. Her sophomore year, the Roadrunners were ranked 12th nationally among Division II schools. In two years with the program, she tallied 506 kills, 430 digs, 66 aces and 108 blocks. McMillan was a three-sport athlete in high school, also competing in basketball and track.
"Megan brings experience with her. While making the jump from the Division II level, she has the physical skills and knowledge of the game to make an impact immediately at this level," Somera said.
Frederic and McMillan bring the number of newcomers on the 2000 squad to five, the Beavers also signed two high school players and a junior college transfer in early February.
