OSU Has Four Wrestlers In Finals On Sunday

DAVIS, Calif. - - Oregon State's wrestlers battled their way to third place by the end of the first round of competition at the Pacific-10 Championships on Saturday in Davis, Calif.
No. 25 Oregon State got a first round pin from fourth-ranked 157-pounder Eric Jorgensen as he took care of Portland State's Ron Holyoak in two minutes, 35 seconds. Jorgensen then beat Warren McPherson of Stanford, 6-1 to advance to the final round Sunday night against No. 6 Larry Quisel of Boise State.
Shane Cunanan, fourth in the Pac-10, but unranked nationally at 141 pounds, pinned UC-Davis's Josh Sternberg in the first round in 5:56. He advanced to the finals by beating 14th-ranked David Douglass from Arizona State 8-5. Cunanan faces CS-Bakersfield's Jonathan Archuleta in the finals Sunday.
OSU got another pin from heavyweight Jason Cooley when he finished off Brandon Arsenault of UC-Davis in 2:06 in the first round. Cooley - ranked 14th - advanced to the finals after beating Oregon's Eric Webb 4-2. Cooley faces Boise State's Bart Johnson in Sunday's final.
Nathan Coy battled his way to the finals after beating UC-Davis's Martin Cook 10-1 and Andy Varner of CS-Bakersfield 8-7 in the 174-pound class.
Nathan Navarro and Ben Richards - at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively - won their first matches, then lost in the semifinals. They will wrestle in the consolation rounds Sunday.
Clint Wilson lost his first round match 5-4, but then won in the consolation round 4-0 over UC-Davis's David Cobb.
The Championships continue Sunday morning with the consolation semifinals and fifth place matches, followed by the championship finals and third place matches that evening.

141 - Shane Cunanan, OSU, pinned Josh Sternberg, UC-Davis, in 5:56. Defeated David Douglass, Arizona St., 8-5 in Semifinals.
149 - Andy Frey, OSU, lost to Tony Overstake, Oregon, 14-8.
157 - Eric Jorgensen, OSU, pinned Ron Holyoak, Portland St., in 2:35, decisioned Warren McPherson, Stanford, 6-1 in semis.
165 - Jake Huffman, OSU, lost to Mike Pierce, PSU, 2-1, lost to Clay Hackerman, Stanford, 6-4 in consolation round.
