Men's Golf Team Finished Ninth at Pac-10 Championships
April 28, 1999
SEATTLE - Dustin Wayne, Eric Dahm and Kyle Hudson each shot a final round of 2-over-par 72 to help the Oregon State University men's golf team to its best round for the Pacific-10 Conference Championships at 361. The Beavers were unable, however, to move up in the standings and concluded the 72-hole event ninth.
"We just couldn't get anything going all week," Beaver Head Coach Mike Ketcham said. "We had too many rounds of 73 and 74. We didn't play horrible by any means, but we put ourselves in positions on the course where it was tough to score."
Oregon State finished with a cumulative score of 64-over 1,464 over the Broadmoor Golf Club, one shot behind eighth-place Arizona. Arizona State easily won its fifth consecutive conference crown, and sixth in the last seven years, by 21 shots at 1,403. UCLA was second at 1,424.
The Sun Devils' Paul Casey, who entered the final round eight shots back of third round leader Joel Kribel of Stanford, shot a course record 60 to claim the individual title. Casey finished the event at 15-under 265, two shots better than Kribel.
Freshman John Lepak led Oregon State overall, tying for 23rd place at 291. Wayne, Dahm and Justin Johnson tied for 29th at 294, Hudson tied for 45th at 300, and Anthony Arvidson tied for 49th at 302.
Oregon State returns to action May 7-9 at the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford. The team is also awaiting a possible NCAA West Regional Championships invitation.
