Women's Golf Team Members Earn Postseason Honors

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Corvallis - Oregon State University womens golf Head Coach Rise Lakowske and junior student-athlete Kathleen Takaishi of San Bernardino, Cal., have earned postseason honors it was announced by the National Womens Golf Coaches Association. Lakowske was honored as the Far West Region Coach of the Year and Takaishi earned Honorable Mention All-American.
Lakowske just completed her eighth year as Head Coach of the Beaver program. She led the team to its first-ever NCAA Championships appearance this season, where they finished 16th. The Beavers, who were ranked in the top 25 most of the 1997-98 season, won three tournament titles this season. Lakowske has led her program to five consecutive NCAA West Regional appearances.
"Its a wonderful honor," Lakowske said. "But more importantly, I think it is a sign of how far this program has come and where it is headed. Im excited about the prospects for the current team next season and for the program in years to come."
Takaishi is the first Oregon State University womens golfer to earn any All-American honor. She has been ranked in the top 30 for most of the season in the College Golf Foundation individual rankings, and concluded the season averaging 76.0 strokes per round. Takaishi won the Northwest Invitational last fall, and had a total of six top-10 finishes for the season. She finished tied for 25th at the NCAA Championships, tied for 15th at the NCAA West Regional Championships and tied for 13th at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships.
