Assistant Football Coach Takes UNLV Coordinator Position

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Jeff McInerney, assistant coach in charge of defensive ends at Oregon State University this past year, has resigned his position with the Beavers to become defensive coordinator under John Robinson at UNLV, it was announced Thursday by OSU head coach Mike Riley.
McInerney, 38, will re rejoining John Robinson, newly appointed head coach at UNLV. McInerney was an assistant coach under Robinson at USC for two seasons, 1996 and 1997.
McInerney served just one year on Riley's staff after coming from USC. McInerney coached Inoke Breckterfield at OSU and Breckterfield, a first team All-Pac-10 and All-American selection, was named winner of the Morris Trophy, selected as the best defensive lineman in the Pac-10. While McInerney was at USC, he coached Darrell Russell, who also won the Morris Trophy.
Riley is currently in Montgomery, Alabama, serving as the defensive coach for the Blue team, which will play the Gray squad in the annual Blue-Gray Classic All-Star game to be played Christmas Day, starting at 8 a.m. PST over ABC-TV.
Riley did not indicated how soon he will name a replacement for McInerney.
