OSU sets Intrasquad Meet for wrestling

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State will give wrestling fans an early look at the 1998-99 Beavers during the annual Intrasquad Meet, which will be held this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Gill Coliseum. Wrestlers at each weight will compete in a best-of-three match series; admission is free.
OSU is ranked 13th in the Amateur Wrestling News preseason poll. The Beavers have five wrestlers in AWNs preseason rankings in each weight class, as senior Oscar Wood is ranked first at 149 pounds, senior Mat Orndorff is ranked sixth at heavyweight, sophomore Shane Zajac is ranked 10th at 197 pounds, sophomore Eric Jorgensen is ranked 12th at 157 pounds, and junior Isaac Wood is ranked 20th at 165 pounds.
Oscar Wood placed third in the nation last season at 142 pounds, earning All-America honors for the second time in his career. Orndorff, Zajac, Jorgensen, Isaac Wood and sophomore 133-pounder Ben Richards also qualified for the NCAA Championships last season and all won at least one match at the national meet.
The Beavers tied for ninth at the NCAA Championships, their fourth top-10 finish in the last five seasons. OSU also placed second in the Pacific-10 Championships last season.
