OSU climbs to 12th place in national poll

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State moved up one spot to 12th place in this weeks National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, which was released Thursday. The Beavers will take that ranking into one of their biggest weekends of the season, facing three opponents that are in this weeks Top 25 and another that received votes.
OSU faces Minnesota, ranked second in this weeks poll, at noon Sunday in Gill Coliseum. The Beavers will go into that meet on the heels of Saturday dual meets at 18th-ranked Cal State-Bakersfield and at 20th-ranked Fresno State. After wrestling against the Golden Gophers, OSU will host Cal Poly - which received votes in the poll but didnt make the Top 25 - at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Gill Coliseum.
Oregon State also had several wrestlers move up in the InterMat national rankings and the Pacific-10 rankings released this week. The next set of Amateur Wrestling News rankings will be announced early next week.
At 149 pounds, senior Oscar Wood continues to be ranked first by both InterMat and in the Pacific-10; he is currenlty ranked first by AWN. Wood is 8-0 this season with four pins and team bonus points in 63 percent of his matches.
At 197 pounds, sophomore Shane Zajac moved up one spot to eighth in the InterMat rankings and he remained first in the Pacific-10 rankings; he is currently ranked sixth by AWN. Zajac is 10-0 this season with two pins and team bonus points in 60 percent of his matches.
At heavyweight, senior Mat Orndorff moved up one spot to sixth in the InterMat rankings and also climbed a spot to second in the Pacific-10 rankings; he is currently ranked fifth by AWN. Orndorff is 8-3 this season with five pins and team bonus points in 55 percent of his matches.
At 157 pounds, sophomore Eric Jorgensen moved up one spot to 15th in the InterMat rankings and remained third in the Pacific-10 rankings; he is currently ranked 15th by AWN. Jorgensen is 9-3 this season with one pin and team bonus points in 50 percent of his matches.
At 165 pounds, junior Isaac Wood slipped three spots to 19th in the InterMat rankings and he entered the Pacific-10 rankings in fourth place. Wood is 5-2 this season with one pin and team bonus points in 57 percent of his matches.
At 125 pounds, freshman Nathan Navarro broke into the InterMat rankings in 17th place and climbed one spot to second in the Pacific-10 rankings. Navarro is 11-3 this season with two pins and team bonus points in 50 percent of his matches.
At 133 pounds, sophomore Ben Richards dropped out of the InterMat rankings and remained second in the Pacific-10 rankings. Richards is 6-2 this season with one pin and team bonus points in 38 percent of his matches.
At 174 pounds, junior Clint Wilson remained second in the Pacific-10 rankings. Wilson is 4-2 this season with team bonus points in 33 percent of his matches.
