Men's Golf to Compete at Southwestern Intercollegiate
SCHEDULE: The Oregon State men's golf team will compete at the two-day 54-hole Cleveland Golf Southwestern Intercollegiate, March 23-24. The event is held at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Cal., and hosted by the University of Southern California.
THE FIELD: Oregon State is joined No. 12 Augusta State, No. 26 Arizona State, No. 17 BYU, California, Cal-State-Northridge, Fresno State, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Jose State, Washington, and USC.
FORMAT: The teams will be made up of five players, with the best four scores per round counting toward the team total.
TEAM: Oregon State Head Coach Mike Ketcham has announced the following five players will be comprising the OSU team this week: Anthony Arvidson (73.7 avg), Justin Johnson (73.3), David Crowell (74.9), Eric Fiskum (75.1) and Chris Janson (74.1).
KETCHAM ON THE TOURNAMENT: "North Ranch Country Club is a great golf course. It's the type of course where, if you think well and be patient, you can shoot a low score. I feel we can compete very well at this tournament, in fact I think we can put ourselves in position to win this tournament."
LAST YEAR: Oregon State finished fourth at this tournament last season, firing a three-round total of 870. Former team member and current OSU women's golf assistant coach Charles Kingsbaker finished second at 208, which included a school record 64 in the final round.
IMPROVING SCORES: Oregon State is coming off a first-place finish at the Oregon Duck Invitational March 9-10, and a tie for sixth-place showing at the Taylor Made Intercollegiate in Hawaii Feb. 13-15. The Beavers have posted their two best tournament 54-hole scores in the last two events, 282 at the Duck Invitational and 284 at the Taylor Made Invitational.
