Women's Golf Eighth at Ping ASU Invitational

Tempe, Ariz. - The No. 25 Oregon State womens golf team, playing without two of its regulars, shot an opening round 316 and is tied for eighth at the Ping Arizona State University Invitational. The Beavers, who are playing without key players Anjeanette Dabbs and Andrea Hehn, are at 28-over-par and tied with UCLA, USC, and New Mexico State.
Freshman Erin Borcherts led Oregon State firing a 5-over-77 at the Karsten Golf Course on the ASU campus. Borcherts is tied for 20th with eight other players, five shots off the lead. Beth Bauer of No. 1 Duke posted an even-par 72.
"Conditions were really different than you would expect," OSU Head Coach Rise Lakowske said. "The wind was a big factor today, accompanied by rain and a temperature in the low fifties. The scores reflect the tough conditions on the course today."
Kathleen Takaishi posted the second lowest score for the day for OSU with a 78, which places her tied for 20th. Rachel Borcherts is tied for 29th at 79, Reena Eklund is tied for 67th at 82, Anne Brooksby is tied for 75th at 83, and Jennifer Ferrante is 93rd after an 89.
Duke and TCU share the team lead at 16-over 304.
The tournament continues through Saturday.
