STREAKS SNAPPED: By virtue of being undefeated at home this season, the Beavers have ended some lengthy negative streaks. The win over UCLA (Jan. 7) snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Bruins, the victory over Arizona (Jan. 23) ended a 17-game losing streak to the Wildcats and the win over Oregon (Jan. 30) concluded a 10-game losing streak to the Ducks. The Beavers longest current losing streak to any conference opponent is now six games, and that to Washington.
OSU VS. UCLA: UCLA has a 65-30 lead in the series, but had its 11-game win streak snapped in its 65-63 loss to the Beavers Jan. 7. Deaundra Tanner had 19 points and Josh Steinthal added 18 in the win over the then No. 7 Bruins. Baron Davis and Earl Watson each had 15 points for UCLA. The Bruins shot only .284 from the field, the lowest for any team in a Pac-10 games this season. In contrast, UCLA shot .611 in its 90-72 victory at Pauley Pavilion last year. Kris Johnson had a game-high 20 for the Bruins, while John-Blair Bickerstaff had 16 for OSU...Oregon State has lost nine straight at Pauley Pavilion.
RETURN TO SENDER: Oregon State enters the UCLA game averaging 3.9 blocked shots per game. The school record for blocked shots in one game entering this season was nine, but the Beavers have eclipsed that mark twice this year with 10 vs. the College of Notre Dame and Oregon. Junior forward Clifton Jones tied a school record with six rejections vs. Oregon.
BY THE NUMBERS: The following is a statistical comparison for Pac-10 games only for Oregon State and its opponents:

Two teams, UCLA and California actually finished the game with more offensive board than defensive, and Arizona State finished the game with a 19-19 ratio.
THE TREND CONTINUES? At USC Thursday, Oregon State continued its trend of playing poorly in its first away game of a Pacific-10 Conference road trip. Here is a look at the combined statistics of Oregon State and its opponents in games at Stanford, Washington and USC, compared to games at California and Washington State:

DOUBLE-DOUBLE CLUB: Four double-doubles have been achieved this season by Oregon State players, two by Clifton Jones. Jones, in fact, had two straight double-doubles - 20 points, 11 rebounds at Washington State/10 points, 12 rebounds vs. Arizona State. Ramunas Petraitis scored a double-double vs. UC Irvine with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Jason Heide had a 15-point, 11-rebound performance at California.PAC-10 WINS: Its modest, but Oregon States five Pac-10 Conference wins is its most since the 1994-95 season. Since the six-win 95 season, OSU has gone 2-16, 3-15, and 3-15.
THREE-POINT ACCURACY: Oregon State enters the UCLA game with a .342 (107-313) percentage for three-point shooting. If the season ended today, that would be the best percentage for a Beaver team since 1991-92 (.353). The school record was set in 1987-88 at .406 (97-239). Meanwhile, OSUs opponents have hit .295 from behind the arc, which would be a school record for futility.
INTERESTED FOLKS: For the first time since the 1992-93 season (twice), more than 10,000 fans have witnessed a game at Gill Coliseum more than once in a season. The Civil War was sold out (10,400) and 10,204 attended the OSU-Arizona game.
IRON, THATS ALL: Oregon State has held its opponents to a combined shooting percentage of .371 through 19 games, and entered the week first in the Pac-10 Conference and third nationally for field goal percentage defense. Only Kansas State and Northwestern began the week with a better percentage.
IRON, THATS ALL II: As previously noted, Oregon State is among the nations best for field goal percentage defense. Here is a look at the shooting percentages at Gill Coliseum for OSUs Division I opponents during the actual game and what they are currently shooting for the season:
at OSU Season Idaho State .382 .416 UC Irvine .403 .439 Arkansas-Pine Bluff .266 .350 Chicago State* .370 .349 UCLA .284 .460 USC .383 .441 Arizona State .323 .439 Arizona .426 .475 Oregon .315 .444*The only team to shoot better in Gill than for the season.
IRON, THATS ALL III: The good news is OSUs field goal percentage defense, the bad news is OSUs field goal percentage. The Beavers are at .430 for the season and in the conference cellar in the category, but over the last three games they have combined for .472. However, OSU entered the week fourth in the Pac-10 for three-point shooting at .344.
ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER: Poor shooting leads to fewer points, and that is what OSUs opponents are finding this season. The Beavers entered this week 12th in the nation for scoring defense at 59.2, now at 60.6. Detroit leads the nation at (53.2), followed by Wisconsin (54.8), Utah (55.5), Northwestern (55.7), Wisconsin-Green Bay (56.4), Stanford (56.6), Temple (57.8), Butler (58.0), Oklahoma (58.1), Southern Mississippi (59.0), and Iowa State (59.1). OSU hasnt held its opponents to under 60 points per game for an entire season since 1984-85 (57.7).
ON THE OTHER HAND: In the "there are two sides to every story" category, OSUs entered the week tenth in the Pac-10 for scoring at 63.4 points per game. California is ninth at 73.8.
CLEANING THE WINDOWS: Oregon State enters game 20 of the season with a rebounding margin of plus-1.8. Last season OSU finished the year on the plus side for rebounding (+1.6/35.7 pg) for the first time since the 1984-85 season. However, in Pac-10 games only the Beavers are -2.4. BEAVERS PICKED 10TH: Media from around the West Coast have selected Oregon State 10th in the preseason Pac-10 media poll. Stanford received 36 of the possible 37 first place votes, followed by Arizona, Washington, UCLA, California (1 vote), Arizona State and Oregon tied for 6th; USC, Washington State, and Oregon State.
EDDIE PAYNE: Head Coach Eddie Payne is in his fourth year at Oregon State and has a record of 37-66. He now has an overall record of 196-174.
