Baseball Moves Up in One Poll
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State climbed one spot to 21st place this week in Collegiate Baseball magazine's national baseball poll, and the Beavers broke into The Sporting News ratings for the first time this season in 24th place, according to rankings announced by those publications on Monday.
OSU (22-9-1 overall, 7-4 Pacific-10 Northern Division) returns to action with a non-league game against Portland on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Coleman Field, then plays a four-game series against Portland State in Northern Division action this weekend. OSU and PSU will play a single game Friday at 3 p.m. at Portland Civic Stadium, a doubleheader Saturday at noon at Coleman Field, and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Civic Stadium.
Tuesday's game is Two-for-Tuesday, with all tickets being sold two for the price of one; no coupons are necessary. Saturday's doubleheader will be Grand Slam Sports Ball Day, with the first 100 kids age 12 and under through the Coleman Field gates getting a free baseball courtesy of Grand Slam Sports in Woodburn.
The Beavers, coming off a four-game split against nationally-ranked Washington last weekend at Coleman Field, didn't make the top 25 of the USA Today/American Baseball Coaches Association poll but received votes worth a tie for 32nd place. OSU was not listed in Baseball America magazine's top 25.
