Women's Golf Team Earns Regional Bid

Corvallis - The No. 19 Oregon State University women's golf team is one of 20 teams to be extended an invitation to participate in the NCAA West Regional Championships, it was announced Tuesday. The West Regional will be held May 7-9 at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Cal.
The Beavers are joined in the West Regional by No. 1 Arizona, No. 2 Arizona State, No. 4 Tulsa, No. 6 Stanford, No. 9 Oregon, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 12 Oklahoma State, No. 13 Texas, No. 14 USC, No. 15 TCU, No. 20 UCLA, No. 23 New Mexico State, No. 25 Texas Tech, No. 26 San Jose State, No. 28 New Mexico and No. 29 Missouri, No. 30 Northern Arizona, and BYU. The top 11 schools will advance to the NCAA Championships, held May 20-23 at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisc. In addition the two best scores from individuals whose teams did not advance, will also qualify the Championships.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that eighth-year Head Coach Rise' Lakowske has guided the program into Regional play. The best finish for the Beavers has been 14th in 1994.
Last year Arizona State edged Arizona by one shot to capture the Regional title. Washington and Oklahoma State tied for the final NCAA qualifying spot, with the Huskies earning the bid by sinking a birdie putt on the second playoff hole of sudden death.
