March 9, 1999
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State freshman pitcher Crystal Draper has been named the Pacific-10 Pitcher of the Week for softball, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Draper went 3-0 at the Fresno State Classic last week, earning victories over No. 3 Fresno State, Creighton and Long Beach State.
She finished the weekend with 22.0 innings pitched for three complete games and a 0.95 ERA. She struck out 28 batters and walked just three while limiting batters to a .224 average.
In the 1-0 win over Fresno State, Draper struck out eight Bulldogs and allowed just six hits while putting an end to the defending national champions 36-game home winning streak. She also had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Beavers the upset victory.
She had 11 strikeouts against Long Beach State and nine against Creighton.
Draper is the first OSU softball player to receive Pac-10 honors this season; Stanford's Jessica Mendoza was named Player of the Week.
