OSU men lose soccer opener

SEATTLE - Oregon State played San Diego nearly even Friday afternoon, but the Beavers fell 2-1 in their mens soccer season-opener at the Washington Tournament. OSU (0-1-0 overall, 0-0-0 MPSF) will conclude the tournament against Loyola Marymount on Sunday at 1 p.m.
OSU gave up a pair of first-half goals, then got on the board in the 82nd minute when Fredrik Kummernes scored on a penalty kick. The goal was the 15th of Kummernes OSU career, moving him into a tie for sixth place on the schools career goals list with Chris Scotti (1989-92).
The Beavers and Torreros both had 11 shots and three corner kicks in the game. USD went in front in the 8th minute off a rebounded miss, as Devin Ebright scored with an assist from Leighton OBrien. OBrien added San Diegos second goal in the 36th minute, scoring on a header with an assist from Ebright off a free kick.
