TOP THREE IS THE KEY: The top three Pac-10 crews from the men and womens side will advance to their respective National Championships, in all likelihood. The men are hopeful to advance to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships May 28-30 at Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey. The top three womens crews will participate in the NCAA Championships in May 29-31 at Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia.
MENS HEAD COACH DAVE REISCHMAN ON THE RACE: "The Varsity Eight will have a tough race, it might be quite a battle between us and Stanford for that third spot. We think we are faster, and we have had some great practices, so Im confident with where we are in our season. If we row to what we are capable of, we should be in good shape. The Second Varsity Eight (JV) has improved all season and has been posting some great times, and the Freshman/Novice Eight has rowed very well over the last two weeks. We have made some technical changes in our boats during the spring season, and I think we are peaking at the right time."
WOMENS HEAD COACH CHARLIE OWEN ON THE RACE: "I think were ready. We are going to have row some very competitive heat races, it all boils down to this weekend. Im fairly confident about our speed. Washington is the favorite on the Varsity Eight race, but then I think its going to be a close race between California, Washington State and Oregon State. This region has enough speed, that I believe the top three boats will advance to the NCAA Championships."
