September 22, 1998
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State goalkeeper Bryan Hill, this weeks national leader in goals-against average, has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week for mens soccer, it was announced Tuesday.
Hill, a junior from Visalia, Calif. (Whitney HS), posted shutouts in OSUs wins of 3-0 over Western Washington on Saturday and 1-0 over Florida International on Sunday. He has yet to allow a goal this season in the 3 1/2 games he has played.
Hills 0.00 goals-against average leads all NCAA Division I mens goalkeepers going into this week. OSU (3-1-0 overall), which has won three straight games, is tied for eighth in the country in team goals-against average at 0.50 and the Beavers rank third in shutouts per game at .750.
After not starting OSUs season-opener against San Diego, Hill played the second half of a 2-1 loss to USD on Sept. 5 and then shut out Loyola Marymount in a 3-0 win on Sept. 7. His three shutouts this season give him seven in his OSU career, moving him into third place on the schools all-time list.
Oregon State plays at Gonzaga on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Beavers only game this week.
