Oregon State Holds Off Stanford
Feb. 28, 1998
Corvallis, Ore. - The 15th-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team fell short in its efforts to become the first team to defeat 16th-ranked Oregon State in its home arena, dropping the Pac-10 contest 194.875-193.525. The Cardinal, which had defeated six of its last seven opponents, fell to 6-4 overall and 2-4 in the Pac-10. The Beavers improved to 8-2 overall (4-2 Pac-10), including 4-0 at home.
Freshman Jenny Wilson (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal School) and senior co-captain Keri Monahan (Laurel Springs, NJ/Paul VI HS) finished 2-3 in the vault, giving Stanford its lone event win of the night. Freshman Jennifer Exaltacion (Mississauga, Ontario) continued her impressive run on the balance beam. The three-time defending Canadian beam champion posted a career-high and season team-high 9.825 in the event, good for a second-place showing. Sophomore Sarah Harding (Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) notched her third consecutive 9.800-plus performance in the floor exercise, tallying the meet's second-highest score with a 9.850.
Stanford returns to The Farm next week for its final home meet of the season as it hosts 10-time national champion and second-ranked Utah in the Chili's Restaurant "Red Hot" Invitational. The meet will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
