Top-ranked Wood named to wrestling all-star meet

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State senior Oscar Wood has been named to next months National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Dual. The meet matches two of the nations top wrestlers at each weight and will be held Feb. 1 at Oklahoma State.
Wood will wrestle T.J. Williams of Iowa in the meet. Wood is the first Beaver named to the NWCA All-Star Dual since 167-pounder Chad Renner and 177-pounder Les Gutches competed at Iowa in 1996.
Wood is ranked first in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News and third by InterMat this week. Williams is ranked third by AWN and second by IM.
Going into this weekends Virginia Duals tournament, Wood was 14-1 with eight pins this season. Last season, Wood placed third in the nation at 142 pounds and earned the Manuel Gorrarian Award for recording the most pins in the least time at the NCAA Championships.
