Men's Golf Slips to 20th at Hawai'i

Waikoloa, Haw. - Playing in the gusty Tradwinds, the Oregon State mens golf team shot a second round 342 and is in 20th place at the Taylor Made Intercollegiate after 36 holes. The Beavers, who were playing the Waikoloa Kings Course in the second round, score was 51 shots higher than the first round Friday.
"This was a long day for everybody," OSU Head Coach Mike Ketcham said. "It was incredibly windy, sustained winds were in the 20 to 25 miles per hour range with gusts in excess of 40."
The best individual score for the round for the Beavers was John Lepaks 11-over-par 83. Lepak, now with a two-round total of 152, is tied for 26th.
"We got off to a bad start and is just snowballed on us," Ketcham added. "This team has a lot of pride, so I expect it will make a move up the leader board in the final round."
The rest of the second round scoring included Eric Dahm with an 86 to put him tied for 63rd at 156, Justin Johnson is tied for 106th after an 87 with a two-round total of 165, and Dustin Wayne and Todd Deacon are tied for 110th at 167.
Georgia Tech has a commanding 16 shot lead over the rest of the field in the team race. The Yellow Jackets are at 580, with Washington at 596 and UNLV and SMU at 597. Carlton Forrester of Georgia Tech is at 139, four shots better than Nicholas Loar of SMU for the individual title race.
