Caires Takes Arizona Assistant Position
June 4, 1998
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Karen Caires, an assistant women's basketball coach this past year for Oregon State University, has resigned her position at OSU to accept as assistant's position at the University of Arizona, it was announced Monday by Judy Spoelstra, the Beavers' head coach.
"I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with Joan Bonvicini (Arizona head coach), who has been a long term influence on my career," Caires explained.
Caires joined the Beavers' coaching staff in July, 1997. She came to OSU after serving as associate head coach at Vermont, where she had been for three years. Before joining the Vermont staff, Caires had been an assistant coach at Cypress Junior College (1989-92) in Cypress, CA, and head coach for two seasons prior to that at John F. Kennedy High School in Orange County, CA.
Judy Spoelstra indicated she hopes to fill the vacancy on her staff as soon as possible. Trisha Sears and Brenda Bumgardner remain as the Beavers' other two assistant coaches.
