Murphy-Barcroft, Ramirez Named Pacific-10 Conference Medal Winners
June 10, 1999
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State senior gymnast Megan Murphy-Barcroft and senior football player Larry Ramirez have been named Pacific-10 Conference Medal winners, as announced by Pacific-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen.
Conference Medals are awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding male and female student-athlete. The awards are based on a combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.
Murphy-Barcroft, the 1999 gymnastics team captain, was the Pacific-10 champion on beam and vault in 1999. She set career-highs on every event and was named to the All-Pacific-10 Team for beam and as an all-arounder as a senior.
Murphy-Barcroft, of Palo Cedro, Calif., was also the NCAA Region 1 champion on vault and floor and will compete at the World University Games in Spain next month as a member of the U.S. Team. A first team Pacific-10 All-Academic honoree, she is majoring in housing and interior management.
Ramirez, of Vale, Ore., was a three-year starter at both offensive guard and tight end. In 1999, he was named a first team Pacific-10 All-Academic selection and was honored as OSU's Attitude and Scholarship winner. He will graduate with a degree in business administration this weekend.
