Women's Golf Finishes Ninth at the UCLA Pioneer Electronics Classic
TEMUCULA, Calif. -- The Oregon State women's golf team, ranked No. 14 in Wednesday's new MasterCard Collegiate golf rankings, shot a final round 303 to finish ninth at the UCLA Pioneer Electronics Classic. The 54-hole tournament was shortened to 36 holes after Tuesday's second round was canceled due to rain. The Beavers concluded its spring season opener with a score of 620, 20 shots back of tournament champion Tulsa.
"This tournament showed us what our individual weaknesses are, and what we need to improve on as the season progresses," OSU Head Coach Rise' Lakowske said. "Overall, not a bad performance by us, and now we have three weeks to improve before we play our next tournament." Kathleen Takaishi led OSU, as she finished tied for ninth with a 6-over-par 150, including a 4-over-76 Wednesday. Takaishi was six shots back of medalist Johanna Josefsson of USC.
Josefsson was the only player to have a round under par for the tournament, firing a 2-under-70 in the final round. The rest of the Oregon State team included Rachel Borcherts and Anjeanette Dabbs tying for 36th at 155; Carina Olsson tied for 56th at 159; and Andrea Hehn tied for 63rd at 162. Borcherts shot a final round 74. The Beavers return to action next month at the Lady Gamecock Classic in Columbia, South Carolina.
