Men's Rowers to Attend Summer Camps
June 15, 1999
Corvallis, Ore. - The Oregon State University mens crew program will be well represented this summer at various national and international camps.
Sophomore Joey Hansen of Bakersfield, Cal., heads the list of student-athletes competing abroad. Hansen is currently at the Mens Nations Cup camp, and will compete in the Cup championships in late July in Hamburg, Germany. Hansen was selected for the camp based on his 2000 meter ergometer (rowing machine) time.
Beaver rowers Scott Fortner of Rogue River, Josh Inman of Hillsboro, and Andrew Jackson and Kevin Mann of Corvallis will be attending a regional development camp at the University of Washington later this summer.
Former OSU standout Cary Sullivan of Boise, a three-time All-Pacific-10 Conference selection, has been invited to the Pan American Games selection camp. "These camps will be a great experience for our athletes," OSU mens head coach Dave Reischman said. "The camps are for athletes who have potential to be national and international caliber competitors. In addition, its a chance for these athletes to show Oregon State University has a top level program."
Oregon State mens freshman coach Matt Imes will also be involved in a camp this summer. Imes will coach the sweep rowers at the Pan Am camp in Princeton.
The Beaver mens crew team just concluded its most successful season ever. The varsity eight finished eighth at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships, its best finish in the history of the event.
