Crew Teams Battle Defending National Champions
May 6, 1998
SCHEDULE: The Oregon State men's and women's crew completes its regular season Saturday, May 9 hosting the No. 1 ranked and defending national champions University of Washington. The races will be held at Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, WA., beginning at 10 a.m.
MEN'S HEAD COACH DAVE REISCHMAN ON THE RACE: "We have changed our varsity lineup as we prepare for the Pac-10 Conference meet. We moved Brian Cunnington from the second varsity boat (J.V.) to the five seat in the varsity boat and that has made a significant difference. We're hoping the change has improved our rhythm and made us faster."
WOMEN'S HEAD COACH CHARLIE OWEN ON THE RACE: "We don't get that many opportunities to race against the best in the country, so this will be a good indication of how fast we are. This race will be an excellent tune-up for the Pac-10 Championships next week. If we can be within 10 seconds of the varsity eight I would be pleased. Overall, I'm pleased with how the season has progressed. We have had a few ups and downs, but generally we have had a good year. We are starting to show our best speed at the time we need to -- we're peaking at the right time."
NEXT UP: Oregon State returns to the water May 17 to compete in the Pac-10 Championships at Lake Natoma near Sacramento.
