Women's Basketball Player Earns Conference Honor

Corvallis, Ore. - Junior center Sissel Pierce has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Womens Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by conference commissioner Tom Hansen.
Pierce, a native of Aberdeen, Wash., averaged 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and shot .526 from the field as Oregon State defeated the University of Portland (59-55) and Long Beach State (69-52) last week. The wins boosted the Beavers undefeated streak to six games, the teams longest since the 1995-96 season.
In the victory over the Pilots, Pierce buried four free throws in the final 16 seconds to solidify the victory. She scored 10 points, and grabbed nine rebounds in the four-point win. She tallied a team-high 16 points vs. the Lady 49ers, connecting on all seven of her field goal attempts in the process.
The Player of the Week honor is the first of Pierces career and the 19th all-time selection for an Oregon State player.
