Women's Golf Travels to Portland Invitational

SCHEDULE: The Oregon State University women's golf team will participate in the University of Portland Invitational, Sept. 28-29. The tournament marks the first-ever hosted by Portland. The 54-hole event will be played at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha (par 72, 6,014 yards) . The format will be 36 holes the first day, followed by 18 Tuesday. The top four individual scores from each round will count toward the team total. Oregon State Head Coach Rise' Lakowske has announced she will be playing her junior varsity team only in this event.
THE FIELD: The inaugural Pilot Invitational field includes Oregon State's junior varsity team, No. 10 Oregon, Portland, Boise State, Sacramento State, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Idaho State, Montana, Portland State, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara and McLennan CC (Waco, TX).
THIS WEEK'S TEAM: Oregon State Head Coach Rise' Lakowske has announced the following lineup for the tournament:

LAKOWSKE ON THE TOURNAMENT: "This tournament is one I hope will improve the depth of our program. We are playing individuals who don't play in every tournament, with the hope they will gain some experience. Playing in a tournament like this should help our depth situation."
BEAVERS WIN OPENER: For the second consecutive season, Oregon State opened the year with a tournament title. The Beavers won the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Sept. 14-15 in Lubbock, Texas with a 54-hole total of 906, 12 shots better than second place TCU. Kathleen Takaishi paced the Beavers with a second-place finish at 6-over-par 222. Rachel Borcherts was fourth at 224, Anjeanette Dabbs tied for fifth at 225; Andrea Hehn was 15th at 235; and Reena Eklund was 38th at 256.
THE LATEST RANKINGS: Oregon State is ranked No. 22 in the MasterCard Collegiate Rankings and No. 23 in the Golfweek Magazine Collegiate rankings. Both are preseason polls. Senior Kathleen Takaishi is ranked No. 21 for individuals in the MasterCard Poll.
TRYSTING TREE RATES HIGH: Golfweek Magazine rated the 10-year-old Trysting Tree Golf Club as the third-best collegiate golf course in the West. Trysting Tree trailed only the Stanford Golf Course and the University of New Mexico's South Course in the ranking. Trysting Tree carries a par of 72 and generally plays around 6,000 yards for any women's intercollegiate tournament.
HOME OF THE 2000 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Oregon State University will be the host institution for the 2000 NCAA Championships being held at the Crosswater Course in Sunriver, Ore. The event will take place May 24-27.
