SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Freshman Jenni Jodoin and junior Kim Herman each hit home runs to propel the No. 23 ranked Oregon State softball team (10-2) to a 2-0, 4-2 doubleheader sweep over Santa Clara (3-13) Saturday afternoon.
Jodoin, who went 4-for-6 with two runs scored on the day, drove in both Beaver runs in the first game. Junior Jodi Chmielewski, sophomore Tarrah Beyster and Jodoin had back-to-back-to-back singles in the first inning, with Jodoin's base hit scoring Chmielewski. Jodoin hit a solo home run, her second roundtripper of the season, in the sixth inning.
Beyster pitched her fourth shutout of the year to improve to 7-1. She gave up three hits, struck out five and walked just one Bronco batter.
In the nightcap, the Beavers scored all four of their runs in the third inning, highlighted by Herman's three-run, two-out homer. Santa Clara scored its only runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Sophomore Brooke Hofstetter threw the complete game for the Beavers. Now 3-1, she allowed seven Bronco hits while striking out four.
Senior Denise Brown was 5-for-7 with a double on the afternoon to extend her hitting streak to four games, the longest current streak for the Beavers. Sophomore Parisa Plant was 3-for-8 with a run and an RBI.
The Beavers return to action Sunday, March 1 when they take on Sacramento State in doubleheader action beginning at noon.
