May 8, 1999
Stanford, Cal. - The Oregon State University mens golf team shot a final round 287 and finished tied for sixth at the U.S. Intercollegiate with a three-round total of 871. The tournament signifies the end of the regular season.
Three Beavers finished in the top 20, led by Anthony Arvidson tying for sixth at 213. John Lepak tied for 12th at 215 and Dustin Wayne tied for 20th at 217. Wayne shot a final round 1-under-70 for the low individual score for the team.
"We had hoped to do a little better than sixth place, but this is acceptable," OSU Head Coach Mike Ketcham said. "Its nice to see us rebound from a disappointing showing at the Pac-10 tournament and play pretty well."
Pepperdine Michael Beard captured the individual title defeating Stanfords Joel Kribel in a playoff. BYU won the team title at 852, 10 shots better than second place Oregon.
The rest of the Oregon State scores included Eric Dahm tied for 52nd at 226, and Justin Johnson tied for 72nd at 230.
The Beavers will now await a probable NCAA West Regional Invitation. The Regional is May 20-22 in Tucson.
