Women's Golf Headed to South Carolina Tournament

SCHEDULE: The No. 15 Oregon State women's golf team returns to action at the 54-hole Lady Gamecock Classic Mar. 20-22. The three-day event is held at The University Club in Blythewood, S.C. The University Club plays to 5,996 yards for this tournament, and carries a par of 72. The course is home to the University of South Carolina golf teams and will be the site of the 1999 NCAA Women's East Regional Tournament.
THE FIELD: Joining Oregon State in the 12-team tournament is South Carolina, No. 9 Duke, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, No. 8 Furman, Mississippi State, No. 19 North Carolina, No. 11 Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and No. 20 Wake Forest.
THE TEAM: Oregon State Head Coach Rise' Lakowske has announced the following players will be competing for Oregon State: Carina Olsson (78.5 avg), Andrea Hehn (76.4), Anjeanette Dabbs (76.2), Anne Brooksby (82.8), and Kathleen Takaishi (75.4).
SCORING: As with most collegiate tournaments, the best four scores from each round count toward the team's total.
LAKOWSKE ON THE LADY GAMECOCK CLASSIC: "We are anxious to compete against these East Coast schools. It will give us a good indication of how we match up in anticipation of the NCAA Championships. It will also prepare us for the following week at ASU."
LAST TIME OUT: Oregon State finished ninth at the 18-team UCLA Pioneer Electronics Classic in Temecula, Cal. The Beavers shot rounds of 317 and 303 in the rain-shortened event for a 36-hole total of 620. Kathleen Takaishi led OSU with a score of 6-over-par 150, finishing tied for ninth.
LAST YEAR: Oregon State finished 14th at last year's Lady Gamecock Classic, shooting 959. Anjeanette Dabbs was the highest-finisher for OSU, tying for 26th at 229. Tennessee captured the event at 890, with North Carolina's Kelly McCall taking the medalist honor at 212.
NEXT UP: The Beavers return to action April 3-5 at the Arizona State Ping Intercollegiate at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe.
