Five Gymasts named to Pac-10 All-Conference Team
April 14, 1999
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Five Oregon State gymnasts were named to the Pac-10 All-Conference Gymnastics Team, the league office announced Wednesday. No other school had more than two gymnasts recognized.
Senior Megan Murphy-Barcroft and sophomore Lara Degenhardt were each recognized on two events, while senior Danae Phillips, junior Corrie Young and sophomore Stephanie Bychowski were each honored on one event.
The conference recognizes three gymnasts on each event as well as six all-arounders.
Murphy-Barcroft was honored as an all-arounder and on beam, while Degenhardt was named All-Conference on vault and floor.
Phillips and Bychowksi were both named to the bars team, and Young was recognized on beam.
The teams are determined by taking a gymnast's score at the Pac-10 Championship and adding it to her RQS (Regional Qualifying Score) on that event. The gymnasts with the three highest totals on each event (or six in the all-around) are named All-Conference.
Degenhardt and Phillips scored 10.0 on floor and bars, respectively, to claim the Pac-10 title on those events. Murphy-Barcroft was the Pac-10 Champion on beam after scoring a 9.95.
