Corvallis, Ore. - FINISH: Oregon State will conclude its 15 days of spring drills with an intrasquad game at Glencoe High Schools Hare Field, starting at 12 noon. The final spring game is open to the public and there will be no admission charged.
REMAINING SPRING PRACTICE DATES: OSU is down to four remaining spring football practice dates. Remaining practice times, sites and dates follow:
DATE TYPE TIME LOCATION April 27 Pads 3:40 p.m. Prothro Field April 28 Limit. Pads 3:40 p.m. Prothro Field April 30 No Pads 3:40 p.m. Prothro Field May 1 SPRING GAME Noon Hare Field, Hillsboro
TELEVISION: Oregon States spring game will be televised by Fox Sports Northwest on a delayed basis to be shown on Saturday, May 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. with Scott Lynn and Steve Preece calling the action.
HILLSBORO SPRING GAME: Oregon State will conclude its allotted 15 days of springs drills on Saturday, May 1, with an intrasquad scrimmage at Glencoe High Schools Hare Field, starting at Noon. No admission will be charged. OSU plans to bring some of the games used at Parker Stadium for Fan Fare and will have them operational at Hare Field, starting at 10 a.m. Following the spring game, a postgame BBQ and autograph session will be held.
INJURY STATUS: Senior Jason White, who started all 11 games at left tackle for Oregon State in 1998, has been held out of spring drills as a result of having reconstructive knee surgery (right) following the 98 season. White is ahead of schedule as far as his rehab and is expected to be at full strength for the start of fall camp on August 12. In addition to Jason White, starting left cornerback Keith Heyward-Johnson will miss Saturdays final scrimmage with a separated right shoulder.
CARROLL TO MISS GAME: OSUs starting strong safety, Terrence Carroll, will miss Saturdays spring game to attend a funeral for his grandmother in his hometown of Houston, Texas.
ERICKSON DIVIDES SQUAD FOR SPRING GAME: Dennis Erickson and his staff held a team draft on Tuesday to split the Beaver squad into two separate teams for Saturdays spring finale at Hare Field. The coaching staff was also split, however, Erickson will call the plays for both teams. Jonathan Smith and Tyler Thomas will quarterback the Black squad and they will have Ken Simonton and David Swopes at tailback. The Black squad receivers will be Robert Prescott, Shawn Kintner, Turner Byrd, James Newson and tight ends Bennie Johnson and Mark Walsh. Terrance Bryant and Nick Stremick will quarterback the White team, which will feature Eric Mobley, Hashim Hall and Patrick McCall at tailback. The receivers for the White team include Robert Adams, T.J. Houshmanzadeh, Roddy Tompkins, Seth Trimmer, Chad Sorenson and tight ends Martin Mauer and Tyler Ross. Erickson has attempted to balance the two teams with players from the No. 1 offensive and defensive units divided up for the spring game. However, on the surface it would appear that the Black squad might have an edge with seven offensive players listed No. 1 on the depth chart and six defensive players listed No. 1 on the depth chart. Due to an injury to Keith Heyward-Johnson and Carroll having to miss the game for his grandmothers funeral, OSUs depth in the secondary is limited and Erickson has designated Jake Cookus and Calvin Carlyle as swing players, players who will play for both teams.
