Women's Golf Team Selected for NCAA Regionals

Corvallis, Ore. - The No. 26 Oregon State University womens golf team has been selected to compete in the NCAA West Regional Championships, it was announced Tuesday. The appearance will be the sixth straight for the Beavers under ninth-year Head Coach Rise Lakowske.
The 54-hole event, which is being hosted by Texas A&M University, will be held May 6-8 at the Pine Forest Country Club in Houston, Texas.
"We are excited about the opportunity to play in the Regional," Lakowske said. "The two weeks we have between the Pacific-10 Championships and the Regionals come at a great time for us. We need to work on our games, and we need the time to get healthy."
Lakowske has confirmed usual Oregon State starters senior Anjeanette Dabbs (76.3 scoring avg.) and junior Andrea Hehn (76.6) will be unable to compete due to injuries. Dabbs has played in two NCAA Regionals and Hehn one.
The Oregon State lineup for the Championships will be senior Kathleen Takaishi (76.0), juniors Rachel Borcherts (78.3) and Reena Eklund (82.9), sophomore Anne Brooksby (79.8) and freshman Erin Borcherts (79.5).
The Beavers are seeded ninth in the 11-team Far West Region. A region that also includes Pacific-10 Conference members No. 3 Arizona, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 6 USC, No. 10 Stanford, No. 12 Washington, No. 18 UCLA and No. 23 Oregon. The other three teams are No. 9 Pepperdine, No. 28 San Jose State and No. 32 San Diego State. The Regional also includes nine schools from the West Region, including No. 4 Tulsa, No. 7 TCU, No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 13 Texas, No. 37 New Mexico, No. 21 New Mexico State, No. 45 Texas A&M, No. 41 Texas Tech and No. 35 Missouri. The top 11 teams in the 20-team field will advance to the NCAA Championships, held May 19-22 in Tulsa, Okla.
Oregon State finished tied for 10th at last years NCAA West Regional, its best showing ever, and advanced to its first NCAA Championships. The Beavers went on to earn 16th place at the NCAAs, and Lakowske was named the Far West District Coach of the Year.
