Beavers up to No. 8 in National Softball Poll

Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University junior pitcher Tarrah Beyster has been named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association softball Player of the Week, it was announced Wednesday. Beyster has helped the Beaver program also escalate to No. 8 in the NFCA top-25, the first time since the formation of the Pacific-10 Conference the Beavers have been included in the top-10.
Beyster led Oregon State to a 7-1 record last week, which included a doubleheader split with No. 1 UCLA and a sweep of then No. 4 Washington. She batted .375 (6-16) with four home runs and 10 RBI. On the mound, she was 4-1 with a 1.73 ERA in 36.1 innings. She hurled three complete games and posted shutouts against California and Washington.
For the month of April, Beyster is hitting .519 (14-27) with 13 RBI, and seven runs scored. She continues to build on her own career Oregon State records for home runs (36), RBI (94), bases on balls (140), wins (58), and strikeouts (467).
The Beavers enter this weekends action No. 8 in the national poll, up from No. 12 the previous week. All eight schools in the Pac-10 who field softball teams are among the top 17. The Beavers, who have won 11 of their last 12, host No. 10 Arizona State (34-14) Saturday at Ropes-Fetrow Field for a Noon doubleheader and No. 3 Arizona (37-9) Sunday at Noon. Oregon State enters this weekend tied for second in the conference with Arizona at 9-5. The Beavers have guaranteed themselves a winning record for the first time since 1984.
