OSU baseball beaten 16-4

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Oregon State gave up 15 runs in the seventh and eighth innings Friday afternoon as the Beavers fell to Cal State-Northridge 16-4 in non-league baseball at Matador Stadium. OSU (3-2 overall) and CSU-Northridge (7-6) meet again in a doubleheader at noon today and then finish their series with a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
In the series opener, OSU took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but Cal State-Northridge began getting to Beaver starting pitcher B.R. Cook. The righthander walked the first two Matador hitters of the inning, then Eric Horvat tied the game with a single and Jeremy Sickles doubled home the go-ahead run.
CSU-Northridge eventually scored seven times in the seventh inning on five hits as the Beavers went through three pitchers. The Matadors then tacked on eight runs on six hits in the eighth inning to make it 16-2.
Oregon State had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on Joe Gerbers solo homer. The Beavers had a chance to add to the lead in the sixth inning when they loaded the bases with two out, but Eric Stark flied out to left field to end the threat.
Troy Schader also homered in the game for Oregon State, as his solo homer in the second inning gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead. It was Schaders second homer of the season.
Gerber was the only Beaver with more than one hit, going 2-for-4. CSUN starter Jim DeBiase got the win, going 8 2/3 innings and striking out 12 while walking six and giving up six hits.
