
Late Flurry Lifts Beavers Over Highlanders

CORVALLIS  – A trio of late goals lifted the Oregon State men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over UC Riverside Saturday evening at a sold out Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore.

Michael Nesci, Wyatt Borso and Milo Wray all found the net within the final 11 minutes of the contest, as the Beavers claimed the win. Borso scored twice in the match, bringing his total to eight goals on the season. Tim Hoffman recorded a pair of assists on the night.

The game was played before a crowd of 1,382, as Oregon State celebrated its first ever Hispanic Heritage Night. It marked the fifth-highest attendance in program history.

With the win, the Beavers move to 5-1-4 on the season and 1-0-1 in Pac-12 play.

Oregon State nearly opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes, but Borso pushed his shot over the crossbar from 10 yards out. The forward would make good in the 14th minute, with a brilliant header that snuck inside the far post. The Highlanders tied things up in the 17th minute. The Beavers nearly retook the lead half and hour into the contest, but Oliver Hernandez Parra saw his shot drift just wide of the post.

The Beavers continued to press forward from there. Aidan Marquez forced a save in the 41st minute, but the teams headed to the break level at one.

Borso nearly netted his second early in the second half, but his header was off target. John Nicolson preserved the deadlock with a diving save in the 56th minute. Max Eisenberg and Nesci both forced saves around the 63 minute mark, as OSU was knocking on the door.

Nesci scored the game-winner in the 80th minute, as the Beavers were finally able to gain a second-half advantage. Borso completed his brace in the 86th minute, before Wray scored with 44 seconds remaining to secure the three-goal victory.

As a team, Oregon State out-shot UC Riverside 21-7 on the night and 12-3 in the second half. OSU also held an 11-6 advantage on corner kicks.

The Beavers will head to Southern California next week for a Wednesday matchup with Cal Baptist.
