All-American Honors Secured for Stiles
March 21, 2025 | Wrestling
PHILADELPHIA – Continuing his strong debut at the NCAAs, Ethan Stiles became the sixth Beaver in the Pendleton era to achieve All-American honors.
Stiles will close the tournament tomorrow with the potential to finish as high as third place in the 149-lb. weight class. The redshirt freshman used a first-period pin over Lehigh's Malyke Hines – taking just 2:11 - and a wire-to-wire win by decision against Rider's Sammy Alvarez to stay alive after falling in the quarterfinals to begin the day.
The opening opponent for Stiles is Shayne Van Ness of Penn State in the consolation semifinals.
Trey Munoz (197) closed his NCAAs run – and decorated Oregon State career - with a 1-1 day behind a win at sudden victory and a loss by decision. Trailing 1-0 after the second, he scored the bout's final four points, including the decisive takedown in the extra period to defeat Zach Glazier. His day ended with a setback to Little Rock's Stephen Little in a hard-fought decision at 4-2.
Maximo Renteria (125), Nash Singleton (141) and TJ McDonnell (184) all suffered defeats today and saw their tournaments come to a close.
Stiles will open the final day of action with an 8 a.m. PT start from the Wells Fargo Center that can be seen on ESPN and ESPN+.
