
Beavers Drop Hard-Fought Battle at Saint Mary’s

MORAGA, Calif. –The Oregon State Beavers put up a strong fight on the road but came up short against No. 23 Saint Mary's, falling 74-64 at UCU Pavilion on Saturday night.
The Beavers (20-11, 10-8 WCC) battled throughout, holding a lead for over 13 minutes in a game that featured 16 lead changes. Oregon State started strong, shooting 51.9 percent from the field in the first half and holding a brief five-point lead. However, Saint Mary's (27-4, 17-1 WCC) used a late second-half surge to secure the win.
Parsa Fallah led the Beavers with 14 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting, while Michael Rataj added 12 points and three rebounds. Liutauras Lelevicius was also a key contributor, recording 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Josiah Lake II chipped in nine points and five assists. Damarco Minor had eight points.
Oregon State shot 47.8 percent from the field.
Saint Mary's was led by Augustas Marciulionis, who posted a game-high 25 points and seven assists. Luke Barrett recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Mitchell Saxen added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Oregon State opened up an 18-13 lead early in the first half. Saint Mary's answered to go in front 21-20. The teams traded punches from there, with the game tied at 29 with 2:30 remaining in the opening frame. The Gaels scored on the final possession of the first half to take a 34-33 edge into the intermission.
Lelevicius led the Beavers with 10 points and six rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.
Saint Mary's extended lead to eight six minutes into the second half, but Oregon State was able to get back within a possession at the mid-way point of the period.
The Gaels used a barrage of second-half free-throw attempts to bring the lead to double-figures with 4:30 remaining. The Beavers answered to get within four with less than a minute to play, but Saint Mary's hung on to take the win by 10.
The Beavers will be the No. 5 seed in next week's Credit 1 Union WCC Tournament in Las Vegas and will play their first game of the event on Saturday.
