Lamer, Hamblin Lead Beavers At Midlands Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. – Daschle Lamer finished in second place and CJ Hamblin placed third to lead the Oregon State wrestling team at the 61st Annual Midlands Championships inside Ryan Fieldhouse on the Northwestern University campus on Tuesday.
Lamer opened the 174-pound division with a 15-0 technical fall over Bradley Gillum of SIUE, a 16-1 technical fall over Brady Collins of Lehigh and a fall in 3:10 against Jordan Chapman of Rutgers. He posted an 11-4 decision over Derek Gilcher of Indiana before an 8-5 loss to Myles Takats of Bucknell in the championship match.
A redshirt sophomore from Corvallis, the No. 21-nationally ranked Lamer is now 13-1 this season with two pins, five technical falls and three major decisions.
Hamblin, at 157 pounds, finished in third place with a 4-0 decision over Conner Harer of Rutgers in his final match of the tournament. He opened the championships with a pair of pins over Ryan Bennett of Illinois and Conner Harer of Rutgers before a narrow 2-1 loss to Dylan Evans of Pittsburgh. Hamblin earned a 10-3 decision over Antony Berg of Cal Poly that took him to the 3rd place match for his win over Harer.
Hamblin, a redshirt junior from Vancouver, Wash., improved to 12-7 this season and 24-15 in his Oregon State career.
Gabe Whisenhunt finished in sixth place at 133 pounds with two wins on the opening day. A redshirt junior from Corvallis, Whisenhunt missed last season with injuries but has been solid this year to improve his career mark to 23-17. He was named the NCAA Wrestler of the Week and Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 7, 2023, a year after posting a 9-3 record in his first collegiate season.
The Beavers will next host No. 2 Ohio State in a huge stage match dual meet at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Gill Coliseum. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
