Beavers Engage with Corvallis Community
June 12, 2024 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's soccer team has made an effort this past winter and spring to engage with the Corvallis community, particularly though work with local bilingual elementary schools. Players and coaching staff members took time to meet with, talk to and read with students.
Some thoughts from the team are included below:
"We have an incredible soccer community in Corvallis that supports us each week during the fall. Our goal this winter and spring was to get out and help where we can. These last few months have been really fun for our Spanish speaking players to serve and read at Garfield Elementary. They've been incredible partners allowing us to get to know their students and inspire them with reading and soccer! We also spent time on the field at training with local soccer clubs trying to encourage young players to love their sport and keep growing with it."
"Working with the kids in Corvallis has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing their enthusiasm for soccer and being able to serve as positive role models has been truly inspiring for us. We're grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in their lives through our passion for the sport."
"Working with children in our community has been such an uplifting experience. As student athletes we have the unique ability to guide and influence their lives in a positive way. I am so appreciative of the opportunity to represent our program positively, not just on the field, but also within the community."
"It's really been an eye opening experience working with children in this community to see how much influence we have on younger generations. Being able to show them that anything is possible, has not only helped us inspire them, but they've also inspired us to keep growing to give back to others."
