Senior Day Ends in Success as OSU Defeats Washington

Beavers extend the winning streak to four meets.
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State gymnastics was in action Friday night, finishing with a 197.225 team score to defeat the Washington Huskies at Gill Coliseum. The result was OSU's fourth-straight 197-plus and fourth-straight victory with one meet to go in the regular season.
It was another week, another 9.8-plus vault for Natalie Briones, who kicked off the Beavers' first rotation with a 9.825, her eighth 9.8 or better this season on the event. Sage Thompson and Kaitlin Garcia both followed with a 9.775 before Sophia Esposito scored her event title-winning 9.875; Jade Carey rounded out the rotation with a 9.85 as the Beavers finished with a team score of 49.100.
The sixth-ranked Beaver bars were up next and did as they've done all season long, providing a punch to the OSU team score. Briones posted her third-straight 9.85 and was followed by a Taylor DeVries 9.775 before the trio of Jennifer McMillan (9.925), Thompson (9.95) and Carey (9.95) sealed the deal with three-straight 9.9s. With a rotation score of 49.450, OSU's team score was up to 98.550 halfway through the meet.
It was a mix of veterans and freshmen who paved the way for a 49.225 score on the beam, as Esposito led things off with yet another 9.875 before Olivia Buckner was given a 9.775 for her efforts. McMillan earned a 9.85 from both judges before Ariana Young was given a 9.775. Carey, in the anchor spot, did what she does best, finishing with her second 9.95 in as many rotations as Oregon State took a 147.775-147.525 team score advantage heading into the floor exercise.
Garcia led things off with a 9.85 in the final rotation, offering the lineup some momentum which translated into a new career-best 9.90 for Karlie Chavez and a 9.875 from Thompson. Young's final floor routine at Gill Coliseum saw Beaver Nation rain down praise after she finished with a 9.90 before Esposito rounded things out with a 9.925.
When the final scores were tallied it was Oregon State 197.225, Washington 196.950.
Carey and Thompson both took home event title honors thanks to their 9.95 bar scores while Carey's 9.95 on the beam accounted for her second of the evening; Esposito sealed the deal on her fifth title of the season with the floor score.
Oregon State returns to action in Boise next weekend, facing Boise State and Utah State.
