Solans Nets Hat Trick As Beavers Tame Tigers
October 04, 2024 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS – Sergi Solans recorded the 19th hat trick in Oregon State men's soccer history, as the Beavers took down Pacific 4-1 Friday evening at Paul Lorenz Field.
Solans scored twice in the first half and once in the second to bring his goal tally to eight on the season – two markers shy of cracking Oregon State's single-season top-10 for goals scored. His three-goal performance was the first by a Beaver since Timmy Mueller reached the mark against San Jose State in 2016.
Fabian Straudi tallied two assists in the contest, giving him six-straight games with at least one point. He is the fourth Oregon State player to ever record a point in six-straight, and would tie the program record with a goal or assist in his next game. Straudi now has eight assists on the year, tying him for seventh in program history.
Arnau Farnos also found the net for Oregon State, scoring his fourth of the season. As a team, the Beavers move to 6-2-2 on the year and 2-0-0 in WCC play. OSU has now won three-straight, and is unbeaten in its last five matches.
The game was played in front of a sell-out crowd of 1,142, including a record 614 students in attendance.
Oregon State opened the scoring less than six minutes in, as Solans pressured the Pacific goalkeeper and was able to deflect an attempted clearance into the Tiger net.
The Beavers added a second just minutes later, as a beautiful piece of build-up play led to Straudi finding Farnos on the left side of the box to put OSU up 2-0. Straudi provided an assist on the Beavers' third in the 25th minute, curling a free kick into the penalty area that Solans flicked into the back of the net.
Pacific pulled one back just before the break, as the Beavers took a 3-1 lead into the intermission.
Neither side was able to take clear control of a stop-start beginning to the second half. Alejandro Silva fired a rocket just over the bar in the 67th minute.
Solans completed the hat trick in the 79th minute, taking a feed from Ellis Spikner and slotting the ball past the keeper to seal the Beaver victory.
Oregon State will hit the road next week for a Wednesday matchup with Saint Mary's.
