Beavers Extend Streak to Five-Straight Behind Farnos Hat Trick
October 18, 2024 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS – Arnau Farnos netted a hat-trick, as the Oregon State men's soccer team took down Gonzaga 4-2 Friday evening to extend its winning-streak to five-straight games.
Farnos netted all three of his goals in the first half, to help propel the Beavers to an early advantage. His second tally was assisted by Fabian Straudi, who set the Oregon State record with a point in eight-straight matches, surpassing the mark of seven set by Ryan Johnson back in 2003. Straudi also moved into a tie for fourth on OSU's single-season assists list with nine on the year.
With three goals on the day, Farnos joined Sergi Solans as Beavers with a hat trick this season, marking the first pair of Oregon State players with three-goal games since Timmy Mueller and Khiry Shelton both accomplished the feat in 2014. Farnos now has eight goals on the year, tying him with Solans for tops on the team.
Tomas Bedouret netted the fourth Beaver goal, his second of the season. The midfielder also tallied an assist in the contest.
Oregon State jumped onto the front-foot early, as Pere Belmonte forced a save in the opening minutes of the contest. Farnos opened the scoring in the sixth minute, as Bedouret played a 40-yard ball over the top to set up the Spaniard from 14 yards out.
Farnos added a second in the 25th minute, with Straudi providing the assist to break the consecutive games with a point record.
Gonzaga pulled one back in the 37th minute. Oregon State earned a penalty kick late in the first half, and Farnos hammered home the rebound after the goalkeeper saved the first attempt to complete the hat-trick.
Bedouret added the Beavers' fourth with a 51st minute strike that was perfectly placed from distance. The Bulldogs netted their second with less than three minutes to play, but Oregon State was able to see out the match from there to secure the victory.
On top of the five-match winning streak, OSU is now unbeaten in its last seven, with its last defeat coming on Sept. 8.
The Beavers will hit the road next Saturday for a matchup at No. 9 San Diego.
