October 01, 2024 | Women's Golf
SEASIDE, Calif. – Kyra Ly led the Oregon State women's golf team with a fifth-place finish at the Molly Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday.
The Beavers improved their team score each round and concluded the two-day, 54-hole tournament in seventh place with a 34-over 304-298-296—898 at the par-72, 6,147-yard Bayonet Golf Course.
Ly finished in a tie for fifth place with a 3-under 71-67-75—213. The 5-under 67 in the second round equaled her best collegiate score, which she first posted last season at the Meadow Club Invitational.
The junior from Portland now has three Top 5 and four Top 10 finishes in her three-year Oregon State career. Her best career finish is a tie for first place at last season's Meadow Club Invitational and her best career three-round score is a 7-under 209 at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate last fall.
Ly led the Beavers with a tie for 11th place finish at the first tournament this season, the Leadership and Golf Invitational in University Place, Wash., two weeks ago.
Raya Nakao, who set the Oregon State single-season scoring average record last season as a true freshman, also played well with a tie for 11th place after recording a 1-over 75-72-70—217. She had four Top 10 finishes as a freshman and now has 15 sub-par scores as a collegian.
True freshman Clara Alevag finished in a tie for 39th place with a 14-over 77-79-74—230. In her first collegiate tournament, and the Beavers' first event of the 2024-25 season, Alevag finished in a tie for 53rd place with a 13-over 69-83-77—229.
Sophomore Rebecca Kim finished with a 22-over 81-80-77—238 to finish in a tie for 55th place, while fellow soph Kelly Hope posted a 29-over 83-82-80—245 to finish 63rd.
Stanford won the 11-team event with a 13-under 287-284-280—851. Paula Martin Sampedro of Stanford and Riana Mission of San Francisco shared medalist honors with a 7-under 209.
The Beavers will next compete at the Stanford Intercollegiate, which is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 20 in Stanford, Calif.
