August 04, 2023 | Women's Gymnastics
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State gymnast Jade Carey begins her quest for another Olympic berth at the 2023 Core Hydration Classic in Chicago, Ill for her first elite appearance since the 2022 World Championships.
"I am super excited to return to elite competition," Carey said. "Starting the journey back to the Olympics is something I've been looking forward to since Tokyo and I can't wait to see how this weekend goes."
The Phoenix native is set to compete in the Senior Women Session 2 starting at 5 p.m. PT on Saturday with the session set to air on CNBC, while live results for the meet can be found by clicking here.
In her last elite appearance, Carey left Liverpool as the only women's gymnast with a pair of gold medals and added a bronze medal to her collection taking third in the women's floor final to conclude her time at the 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
She returned home as the only U.S. woman to take individual gold, capturing the vault title, averaging 14.516 for her first individual gold medal at the World Championships.
Carey last competed at the Core Hydration Classic (formerly known as the U.S. Classic) in 2021, competing on both bars and beam.
The back-to-back Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year finished her second season at OSU recording a 9.9625 on beam as an individual at the 2023 NCAA Championships. The second-place finish on beam at Nationals was the first runner-up mark for OSU and the highest score on the apparatus at NCAAs, surpassing Madeline Gardiner's 9.9250 at the 2015 NCAA Championship, where Gardiner placed third.
Carey finished her sophomore campaign with six First Team All-American honors, taking home Regular Season First Team honors on every event plus the all-around, while picking up a NCAA First Team honor on beam after her performance at Nationals. She now holds 14 All-American distinctions across her two seasons with the Beavs, while also holding the 14 highest all-around scores in program history, breaking her own record twice last season with a pair of 39.875s.
