Beavers Finalize Coaching Staff
June 02, 2023 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's soccer team has finalized its coaching staff for the 2023 season, head coach Greg Dalby announced Friday.
The Beavers are welcoming to their team assistant coach Jarred Brookins, who comes to Corvallis from Davidson. In addition, Oregon State alums and former players Evan Munn (assistant coach – goalkeepers) and Adrian Molina-Diaz (graduate assistant coach) will join the staff. Sergi Nus will return as an assistant coach for his second year with the squad.
"I am excited to announce our full and complete staff," Dalby said. "This group of coaches is well prepared and experienced in winning, recruiting, and helping our players and the team compete at the highest level. Each staff member brings a unique background that will help form and shape our program to be one of the best in the country."
Dalby is heading into his first season as Oregon State head coach, having joined the program in January. The Beavers' bench-boss came to Corvallis after spending five seasons at Penn State, and also had stints at Notre Dame and Davidson.
The Beavers wrapped up their spring season on May 20, winning all six of their matches.
Jarred Brookins – Assistant Coach
Brookins comes to Oregon State after spending the last two seasons at Davidson. During the 2022 campaign, he helped guide freshman Denis Krioutchenkov to Atlantic 10 All-Rookie and Second-Team All-Conference honors. In his first season with the Wildcats, he was part of a team that went 9-7-2 and notched a pair of victories over ranked opponents.
Prior to his time at Davidson, Brookins spent three years as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Mercer, where he helped the Bears to a 30-20-3 overall record, including an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019. In addition to coaching 20 all-conference performers, a Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in Macon, Brookins was a part of a staff named the 2018 Southern Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
Brookins also spent five years with the Vestavia Hills Soccer Club in Alabama, helping the club to seven USYS Youth Soccer State Championships from 2014-18 as well as an appearance in the U18 Region III quarterfinals in 2017. He graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in 2013 where he was a team captain in 2012, while leading the Panthers to an undefeated record in the Southern Athletic Association.
"I'm incredibly grateful to Coach Dalby for the opportunity to join one of the most elite college soccer programs in the country," Brookins said. "To join this amazing staff and work with this talented group of players is truly a dream come true. I'd also like to thank Mike Babst and Brad Ruzzo as well as the Davidson and Mercer Men's Soccer Programs for preparing and mentoring me over the last five years. My family and I are so excited to join the Oregon State and Corvallis community."
Sergi Nus – Assistant Coach
Nus joined the Oregon State staff prior to the 2022 campaign. In his first season with the Beavers, he helped guide Oregon State to the NCAA Tournament, as the team posted five wins over ranked opponents, including a road victory over No. 1 Washington. Oregon State's squad boasted seven All-Pac-12 honorees that season, including three First-Team selections and the Conference Player of the Year.
Prior to joining the Beavers, Nus coached in Turkey, where he was an assistant coach for FDC Vista, developing offensive and defensive game plans. Prior to that, he played professionally for South Georgia Tormenta FC of the USL.
A defender, Nus played his college soccer at Virginia. He was a two-time All-Region selection, as well as a two-time All-ACC honoree. He started every game of the 2016 and 2017 seasons for the Cavaliers, before missing the 2018 campaign due to injury.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to work with Coach Dalby and learn from his tremendous experience at the highest level," Nus said. "Oregon State is an incredible place to be and we are excited to be able to help our players reach their full potential. This is a special group that is hungry to achieve great things and we are confident that we will deliver a style of football that will excite our community and fans."
Evan Munn – Assistant Coach - Goalkeepers
Munn was a goalkeeper for the Beavers during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The Olympia, Wash. Native was heavily involved in Oregon State's Dam Worth It Program, which focuses on mental health awareness, including serving as the program's president in the 2019-20 academic year.
Munn's collegiate career also featured stops at New Mexico and Tacoma Community College, where he was named Team MVP and NWAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
"I'm very excited and grateful for the opportunity to return to my alma mater with such a great group of players," Munn said. "The Oregon State Men's Soccer legacy is continuing to grow in terms of excellence since my time as a player, and with the incredible talent we have, it's clear that the future of the program will bring home many championships to come. I am excited to get to work and grow this winning spirit in the fall. GO BEAVS!"
Adrian Molina-Diaz – Graduate Assistant Coach
Molina-Diaz was a part of the 2021 and 2022 Oregon State teams. He was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team in 2021, despite having his season cut short due to injury. The Alicante, Spain, native scored six goals in the 12 matches he played during that campaign, tying him for fourth in the Pac-12.
Molina-Diaz made eight starts last season, as he battled back to fitness.
"It is a pleasure for me to continue my association with OSU Men Soccer after my two seasons as a player," Molina-Diaz said. "It is the beginning of a new phase for me as a coach, which I am very excited about. I believe that I can make a contribution to the program and help the players with the experience that I have been able to acquire in my career as a player. I feel that I am in the best place possible and surrounded by the best professionals to learn how to take my first steps in my career as a coach."
