McDermott to Join Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - A 2023 NCAA qualifier and 2020 NJCAA national champion at heavyweight, Boone McDermott will join the Oregon State wrestling team as a graduate student for the 2023-24 season.

Transferring from Rutgers, the Iowa native heads to Corvallis behind an appearance in Tulsa after 16 wins, an unblemished 8-0 mark in dual action, a Roadrunner Invitational title and eighth place finishes in the Big Ten tournament and Midlands Championships.
In his first season on the Scarlet Knights' starting lineup, he registered 15 wins alongside achieving Academic All-Big Ten honors. He opened the 2021-22 season with a ranked win and closed it with three consecutive victories.
He ran the table to the 2020 NJCAA heavyweight crown with a 36-1 mark that saw an impressive 21 wins via fall to close his career with Iowa Central. McDermott recorded 62 takedowns in his first collegiate season on the way to a district championship. Intermat ranked him as the top-ranked heavyweight junior college prospect.
