Players in the Pros
May 04, 2023 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS – Oregon State head men's soccer coach Greg Dalby has had remarkable success during his career as a coach. Part of that success is reflected in his ability to prepare his players to compete in the professional ranks.
During his stints at Penn State, Notre Dame and Davidson Dalby has helped guide a number of players to the next level, both domestically and overseas.
"The byproduct of having good teams is players get to move onto the next level," Dalby said. "Without question, all the players who go on and make it in MLS or USL share the common trait of being the biggest driver of their development. Not me, not a program, not their youth club environment, but the individual who is highly motivated by getting better each day. I feel so fortunate to have worked with the players I have and I will continue make this a priority here at Oregon State."
Quotes from Dalby's former Players:
"Greg was a tremendous coach and had an incredible impact on my career. With a pedigree like his, he demands respect and you can trust that he will guide you into being the best possible player. I always had the feeling I could talk ball with him and he made everyone feel super comfortable, whether you were the captain of the team or it was your first day on campus as a freshman. For me personally, being the same position as him, I tried to take in every ounce of knowledge he had, given his success as a player."
"Coach Dalby is one of the best coaches I've had the pleasure of playing for. His experience and knowledge of the game is top class, but I think what really separates him is the relationships he builds with his players. He'll do anything to help his players be successful and he's a big reason for where I am today. I often think back to advice he's given me over the years and continue to apply it to my own life. His impact on me not only as a player but also as a person is something I'll always be grateful for."
"Coach Dalby was an instrumental figure in both my aspirations to play professionally and in actually helping me achieve that goal. Having a former professional in the locker room not only gave him immediate credibility as a coach, but motivated us all to get to that level. Dalby brought a deep level of expertise that gave us confidence as players - and that was his lasting impact on my career"
"Coach Dalby was pivotal to my success as a student-athlete and as a professional soccer player. Not only was coach Dalby an amazing soccer coach, but he was a role model who I looked up to. College is a crucial time for people and I can't think of a better person to be around and learn from on a daily basis than coach Dalby. He is also the best two-touch/3-cone game player in the business."
