
Beavers Take Down Cal on Senior Day

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team used a late Michael Rataj layup to defeat California 69-66 Saturday evening at Gill Coliseum.
Glenn Taylor led the Beavers with a career-high 28 points, hitting 14 of his 15 free throw attempts. Jordan Pope finished with 17 points, as he moved up to second on Oregon State's freshman scoring list.
Tyler Bilodeau recorded 11 points and five rebounds before fouling out. Rataj ended the evening with six points and four rebounds.
Oregon State trailed by as many as 16 in the contest. The Beavers shot 42.6 percent from the floor in the game, and 48 percent in the second half.
California scored the first seven points of the game to jump out to an early lead. The Golden Bears were in front 15-3, eight minutes into the contest. Cal led 32-16 at the final media timeout of the first half, before Oregon State used a 9-0 run to get back within seven.
California headed to the break up 36-28.
The Beavers got back within five just over three minutes into the second frame, before Pope tied things up with a triple with 13 minutes left in the half. Oregon State took its first lead with 10:52 left on the clock.
The teams traded punches for the bulk of the second half, with the Golden Bears retaking the advantage with less than five minutes to go. The score was even at 64 with 81 seconds remaining, and Cal led with under 30 seconds to go before Rataj converted a layup to give the Beavers the lead. The freshman capped the game off with a late dunk to put OSU up three.
Oregon State honored seniors Rodrigue Andela and Dzmitry Ryuny in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
The Beavers will head into next week's Pac-12 Tournament as the No. 11 seed, and will face either Arizona State or Washington State Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. in Las Vegas.
