
Beavers Take Down Aggies

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team remained perfect at home this season, as the Beavers took down UC Davis 71-59 Thursday evening at Gill Coliseum.

Chol Marial led the Beavers with 18 points and 10 rebounds, setting career-highs in both categories to net his first collegiate double-double. The center finished the game 6-for-8 from the floor. Dexter Akanno finished with 16 points on 4-for-9 shooting, while Jordan Pope had 15 points in the contest, extending his streak to 10-straight games in double-figures.

Michael Rataj had seven points and five rebounds in his first appearance at Gill this season. Josiah Lake II ended the day with four steals.

Defensively, Oregon State held UC Davis to 35.8 percent shooting in the contest, and limited Agggie standout Elijah Pepper to nine points – less than half of his season average.

The Beavers shot 47.7 percent from the floor, and 38.5 percent from 3-point range in the game.

The teams went back-and-forth early, as UC Davis led 8-7 at the game's first media timeout. Oregon State went in front 19-12 mid-way through the opening half.

The Beavers extended the advantage to eight with less than seven minutes to go before the intermission, but the Aggies battled back to level the score at 26 with 2:16 on the clock. UC Davis led 32-27 at the break.

Oregon State used a 14-0 run to retake the lead and jump in front by seven with 10 minutes to play. The Beavers extended the advantage to double-figures in the latter phases of the contest, and led by as many as 14 on their way to the 12-point win. Â

The Beavers will remain at home Monday for a matchup with Cal Poly.
