November 11, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon State volleyball team fell in four sets to the fourth-ranked Stanford Cardinal (17-25, 17-25, 25-21, 13-25) on Saturday afternoon.
Oregon State (10-16, 5-11 Pac-12) was led offensively by three – Peyton Suess (15), Mychael Vernon (14) and Megan Sheridan (10) - who totaled double-figures in kills while Amanda Burns tallied a team-high 31 assists. Ryan White led the defensive effort with 14 digs. Burns tallied the lone ace for the Beavers.
Vernon met the 1,000-kill mark in the third set of today's match and became just the 17th OSU student-athlete to accomplish the feat.
Despite the Beavers holding an 11-9 lead in the opening set, the Cardinal needed a 5-1 run to get separation from Oregon State on the way to a 25-17 set victory. Vernon led the Beavers with six kills on eight attempts while White and Sheridan added four digs. Burns quickly built toward her total of assists with 10.
Nine Burns assists highlighted the Beavers' second set, which also finished in the Cardinal's favor by a 25-17 score. Aliyah McDonald, Suess and Vernon each put up a trio of kills to lead the offense.
Forcing a fourth set, Oregon State used a 25-21 line to take one from the Cardinal. The Oregon State offense – which posted a .400 clip – was led by Suess, who tallied a set-high six kills while Burns and Elizabeth Schuster combined for a dozen assists. Never trailing in the frame, OSU fended off a tough Cardinal attack, committed just a pair of errors and capped the action with a block from Vernon and Lauren Rumel.
The Cardinal sealed the win with a .478 offensive performance in the fourth set to Oregon State's .115 clip. Suess completed her day with four kills while Burns contributed with five assists.
Oregon State will travel to Arizona for the final road trip of the season. Action with the Wildcats is slated for 4 p.m. PT on Friday, November 17 and can be seen on the UofA Live Stream.
